Future Energy’s largest development to date will be the Orford wind farm. The Orford wind farm will consist of 50 or more wind turbines on several landowners’ properties near Warrnambool, Victoria. Initial work has now commenced on the planning permit process and an application is expected to be lodged with Victorian Government during 2010.
The wind farm will be located east of the township of Orford approximately 28 km north west of Port Fairy Victoria in the Moyne Shire.
The site is cleared farming land with large setbacks to nearby properties. The land provides for easy access for construction and minimum disruption to the local environment. If the wind farm goes ahead, the farming will continue unchanged.
All planning and feasibility studies for the proposal will commence during 2009. The feasibility stage will determine the number of wind turbines of the final wind farm.
However, the table below summarises the energy and greenhouse statistics of a 100 megawatt wind farm.
