Solenco 1

Solenco logoSolar energy data for north western Victoria ranks it among the best in the world for a solar energy project. SEC has selected the Mildura area as its preferred location, and is working with local landowners, the local authority, and State organisations to select sites for solar power generation facilities. Apart from its excellent solar access, Mildura also offers good access to a robust electrical grid, and a workforce and manufacturing capacity readily available.

SEC is working actively with a group of stakeholders to build the momentum for solar generation projects in north west Victoria. The consortium’s first project – Solenco 1 – is a proposal for an 80MW solar thermal power plant located near Mildura in Victoria.

The project was the subject of an application for a Federal Government grant under the REDP scheme. Despite being shortlisted in December 2009, SEC has recently been advised that its application was not successful. SEC continues to work with its technology suppliers and consortium partners to refine the Solenco project, and to develop other commercial-scale solar projects using both photovoltaic and solar thermal technologies.
